Webinar On-Demand
Sponsored by the Steel Framing Industry Association (SFIA)
Presented by David Deuschle, Jose Estrada, Pat Hainault, P.E., and Gregory Klosowski, AIA

Learning Objectives:

  1. Introduce the panelization process by way of an overall overview of the project description, timeline project, alternative scenarios, and budget implications.
  2. Identify the roles and relationships that exist in the case study project, featuring an architect, builder, structural engineer and panelizer.
  3. Develop an intricate perception of the role the design integration of panelized systems play on the impact of the timeline of construction.
  4. Describe their main reason for opting for a panelized or offsite practice project from the point of view of each role, as opposed to a traditional site-build.

A conversation with an experienced cold-formed steel (CFS) crew, a builder (fabricator), a structural Engineer, and an architect. Participants will be given a deep-dive into a mid-rise project which was built with CFS as the primary structural element and employed the practice of panelization as a method of construction (or offsite construction practices). This will be a panel discussion focused on the lessons-learned, relationships and efficiencies provided by the use of offsite practices from multiple points of view.

DavidD

David Deuschle, a member of the All Steel Mid Rise Team since 2013 and an industry veteran of more than 40 years, has applied his knowledge of panelization and construction methods to nearly every shape and size of building. He is particularly skilled in coordination with all trades in all the construction process’, as well as procurement of CFS materials, and shipping logistics.

JoseE

Jose Estrada, Manager of SFIA’s Architectural Services/East, works with architects, engineers, fabricators and contractors to ensure the efficient use of cold-formed steel framing, including the current and correct codes and standards. Jose has extensive industry experience in the construction industry from education to consultation, including 15 years with USG Corporation

PatH

Pat Hainault, P.E., Cold-Formed Group Leader for raSmith, oversees the company’s national cold-formed steel portfolio on a wide range of projects including commercial, retail, multifamily residential, mixed-use, hospitality, industrial, and institutional facilities, many of which utilize prefabrication and panelization to further improve quality control, efficiency and speed of construction. Pat is a registered professional engineer in numerous states and an active member of AISI, CFSEI, SFIA, and AWCI including participation as a member of the CFSEI Executive Committee, SFIA Technical Committee, and the AWCI Construction Technology Committees.

GregoryK

Gregory Klosowski, AIA, is senior associate with the architectural firm Pappageorge Haymes Partners (PH), based in Chicago, where he has been the project designer for a range of projects from low rise affordable housing to luxury apartment towers. Prior to joining PH in 2013, Greg ran his own award winning west coast architectural studio with notable projects including mixed market residential, retail and conceptual work.

Steel Framing Industry Association (SFIA) The SFIA represents more than 1,300 members, including steel mills, coil coaters, processors, roll-formers, fabricators, engineers, material distributors and framing contractors. Its 28 Stud Manufacturer and 8 Contractor/Manufacturer members produce nearly 80 percent of the cold-formed steel stud and track used in the United States. SFIA promotes using cold-formed steel framing, advocates pro-industry codes and standards, conducts seminars and supports competitiveness through innovation. SFIA provides statistical and trend data for the industry regarding steel usage and nonresidential construction.
