Natural stone is durable, sustainable, and as a currently sought-after design aesthetic, can increase a home’s value. Stone is a material that also never goes out of style! The projects presented in this webinar demonstrate the uses of several types of natural stone, emphasizing the many ways it can be used to create a contemporary and comfortable living or working space.

Rosa Juanes, will present the Hofmann House which is a consolidated landscape surrounded by gardens, a large and elongated plot with a distant view of the sea and a pleasant breeze. An exempt cabinet houses the structure, distributes spaces and filters privacy, opening up possibilities in the way of movement and use of space. The main room, shaded by the cantilever is arranged in continuity with the outside. The interior of the unit includes wetted parts and limits the scale of overnight areas that are located in the quiet part of the garden.

Joel Sanders, AIA, principal for Joel Sanders Architect, will present on New Canaan House in bucolic New Canaan, Connecticut. In addition to running his own studio based in New York City, Sanders is a Professor of Architecture at Yale University. The challenge posed by the design of this renovation and master bedroom addition was to obey strict zoning requirements in a way that respected the integrity of a significant mid-century modernist home designed by John Black Lee in 1957.The result is contemporary and comfortable living spaces that dramatize Lee’s contribution to the mid-century modern aesthetic.

The presentations will be followed by a moderated discussion
