Community healthcare facilities have unique security needs and for many organizations, physical security technology and training are new to this space. Security professionals in rural community healthcare clinics have to rely on instinct, behavior monitoring, body language, tone of voice and more to determine risk, deescalate situations and maintain the safety and security of staff, patients and visitors. We will learn about the unique security needs and risks in community healthcare, along with practical tips and advice for mitigating risk, responding to incidents and deescalating behaviors. Perhaps, most importantly, we will cover specialized certifications, and necessary training and resources for security professionals in community healthcare to ensure a highly trained, well-prepared staff to deal with the ever-changing landscape of healthcare.

Ted Bowen was introduced to security 16 years ago and his resume includes Tribal Gambling Enforcement, Health Care Security, State House of Representatives Security Supervisor, and Corrections. During this time Ted has worked hard to gain multiple certifications including IAHSS Basic and Supervisor, Psychiatric Emergency Response training, EMT certification, defensive tactics instructor course, suicide prevention certification and others. Ted's goal is sharing his knowledge to create and help build health care security departments that work in today’s world and keeping staff, patients, and security officers safe.
