Live Webinar Airing on April 22, 2025 at 02:00 PM EST
In today’s rapidly evolving architectural landscape, integrating modern technology is revolutionizing how we design and construct buildings. From carbon calculation to comfort, architects have resources at their fingertips to streamline the design process and meet or beat client expectations. This webinar explores the intersection of sustainability, technology, and business outcomes in modern construction and design.
Participants will learn to leverage advanced tools and material innovations to optimize energy use, reduce waste, and improve overall building performance. The webinar emphasizes Health, Safety, and Welfare (HSW) and highlights sustainable solutions that contribute to occupant well-being, code compliance, and long-term economic benefits. Through real-world applications, attendees will gain insights into designing resilient, high-performing spaces that meet evolving industry demands.
Dan Stine of LakeFlato will present the Lake Flato San Antonio Office Transformation in Austin, TX.
In January 2023, Lake|Flato completed a comprehensive renovation of its 1920-era San Antonio office building to accommodate growth, respond to new technological developments in hybrid work, and more aspirationally reflect the firm’s community-oriented, place-based culture.
Rather than site an addition, the firm replaced its parking area with a four-season outdoor space that creates a natural backdrop for a variety of work, community, and social collaborations. For a firm with a focus on sustainability, expanding the office meant deconstructing, reusing, and renovating rather than adding and encouraging human and environmental health through outdoor amenities and connections to nature.
During the design process and through Well Building Platinum certification, a wide range of technology was used to explore and analyze design solutions. From cloud-based outdoor thermal comfort and traffic noise analysis in the courtyard to daylighting, operational , and embodied carbon accounting within the building, contemporary tools were employed to optimize for high-performance outcomes.
Lake|Flato’s goal of having an office that isn’t just a backdrop but rather a joyful reflection of the firm’s design ethos and culture of collaboration is now palpable.
Jack Rusk from C.Scale will delve into and discuss the belief that data-driven tools can help get "all hands on deck" in the work of transforming buildings and cities from a climate burden to a climate solution. By democratizing access to data across the design workflow, C.Scale enables designers to achieve cost-effective decarbonization by focusing on what matters most.
The end of the presentation will feature a Q&A session with the presenters to discuss key points from the webinar.
