Architectural Record Academies of Digital Learning

From the industry leader in AIA continuing education, Architectural Record announces its Academies of Digital Learning program: a new educational offering that allows architects to fulfill some or all of their annual CE requirements within individual academies focused on specific areas of design interest.

The program is free and open to the public, and it provides an innovative extension to the scope and breadth of the current CE Center. Each academy will provide an editorial-rich curriculum that includes courses, articles, research reports, live webinars, and other educational materials instructionally designed into an 8-hour program focused on a specific building type. Upon successful completion of each academy, participants will receive 8 CEUs as well as a digital badge from Architectural Record recognizing and validating their accomplishment.

Multifamily Housing

The Multifamily Housing Academy focuses on housing and explores the meaning of “home” in the early stages of the 21st century, specifically in the context of the cost, regulatory, site, and development constraints of a rapidly urbanizing world. Innovative design is critical to addressing the multiple problems and obstacles that inhibit delivery of the massive amounts of new housing now needed across the globe.

Sustainability

The Sustainability and Healthy Materials Academy focuses on the increasing use of safe, eco-friendly materials within the larger tent of sustainable design within the sphere of residential, commercial and industrial applications. It explores environmental and aesthetic benefits, technical advances, code-compliance, as well as the inherent opportunities for using healthy materials and sustainability strategies to enhance not only aesthetics but the overall lifecycle and integrity of a given project. As innovative design solutions become increasingly critical in creating sustainable, cost-effective, modern structures, healthy, natural materials and products are seeing a renaissance for both their beauty and performance qualities.

Stadiums

The Stadiums Learning Academy focuses on architectural and design innovations for stadiums as well as other sports facilities in the United States and abroad—everything from indoor pools and baseball fields to football, soccer, and Olympic arenas. It explores the use of a variety of materials and strategies to meet the challenges inherent to creating large, fan-friendly venues while still meeting cost, time, and regulatory constraints. The academy provides an array of learning opportunities, including several courses featuring more than a dozen Architectural Record Building Type Study articles addressing the stadiums market; an editorial CEU from the magazine featuring projects with large-scale kinetic elements, including retractable roofs, which have long been a feature of stadia and ballparks for professional athletic teams; one special-focus multimedia CEU examining the use of antireflective glass for stadium applications; a course that takes an in-depth view of sustainability goals in stadia design; and an interactive webinar bringing together stadium design experts from across the country to discuss three recent high-profile projects. The academy features many examples of innovative solutions across a wide range of stadium and sports facility projects, providing practicing architects with endless inspiration and substantive information.
